The CFUW Perth & District Environment Advocacy Group invites you to celebrate Earth Day with our hybrid presentation on the importance of wetlands and preserving biodiversity in the region. Our guest speaker, Don Johnston, will speak about the Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust and the role of land trusts in the protection of sensitive wetlands.

Wetlands mitigate flooding, store carbon and provide habitat for a diverse range of species, making them significant nature-based climate solution powerhouses. Lanark County has significant areas of wetlands, so many of us may not feel that there is a shortage. Since the planning of the Caivan development on the Perth golf course lands started, our community has discovered how easily development can impact these sensitive lands. These powerhouses need our help more than ever.

We are hosting this presentation at our April meeting that will provide more information and will address ways to take action to prevent future developments on wetlands or other sensitive lands. Please join us on April 22,2025, Earth Day, at the Perth Legion at 6:30 pm for an in person presentation by Don Johnston, former president of the Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust. This is a hybrid meeting. If you wish to attend via ZOOM, please register at https://bit.ly/3XgVOzv

The public is welcome too! We look forward to seeing you there!
