At the northern boundary of Rideau Lakes Township – just on the edge of the Town of Smiths Falls – is the very popular Wild Wing Restaurant. Locally, the restaurant is known for serving the ‘best wings in town’.
Wild Wing is famous for its mouth-watering Canadian-raised chicken wings that are served with 101 incredible flavour options. Local couple Anita Theelen and Jeff Levac took over the franchise in August 2019.
Asked what attracted them to the area, Jeff said, “Anita’s from Westport and spent many years in the food industry. And I grew up in Smiths Falls. We love this area!”
“We’re halfway between Kingston and Ottawa,” Jeff explained. “There’s so much to do within an hour in any direction. The area has so much to offer – boating and fishing events, poker runs. We’ve really seen boating become more popular in the last 2 years. And in the winter, With the Cataraquai Trail right by us, we have become a destination for many snowmobilers.
While wings are their specialty, they also serve salads and wraps, and appetizer favourites like onion rings, mozzarella sticks and loaded potato skins. Chicken sandwiches, burgers, hotdogs, fish, chicken, ribs, fries and poutine options are also on the menu, as well as decadent and delicious desserts from the Cheesecake Factory Bakery.
2020 was a challenging year for the restaurant industry due to COVID-19. Fortunately for Wild Wing, they were able to pivot their business to take out and delivery, and continue to offer an extensive menu. Beer can also be purchased with your take out order.
“The whole ‘support local’ effort seems to be working,” said Jeff. “We’ve seen a lot of new customers in the last year – and more are discovering us every day. Often people forget to look in their own backyard.”
“We are looking forward to patio season again to hopefully be able to serve our community through more than just take out and delivery,” added Anita. “And to bring back our Live Music Friday Night's. We definitely miss the social aspect of our business.”
