The wards and communities of the Township of Rideau Lakes have a rich heritage. This area was used for millennia by Native Americans as a travel route and rich fishing ground. The first surveys were done in the late 1700s with settlers arriving soon thereafter.
The Township is also host to a large section of the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the only such site in Ontario.
The Development Services Department is responsible for the review and processing of all applications under the Planning Act and the Ontario Building Code; ensuring compliance with the Township’s Official Plan, Zoning By-Law, other Municipal By-Laws, and the Ontario Building Code; as well as providing current and long-term planning services.
The Township offers many recreation facilities including numerous trails, softball diamonds, tennis courts, forested areas and waterfront beaches.
Lower Beverley Park is not just a campground. Members of the public can access the recreational amenities that the Park has to offer. There is a playground, ball diamond, shuffleboard, basketball court, hiking trail with a children’s story walk, picnic pavilion, and beach. Members of the public can access the arcade, horseshoe pits, and mini putt course as well for a small fee. The campground also rents out paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes. Parking costs $5.00 for the day.

Do you have used items that are of no use to you any longer, but are not quite ready for the landfill? They might become someone else’s treasure!
Saturday, April 26 and Saturday, October 18 have been marked as Rideau Lakes’ Trash 2 Treasures Day.
We encourage residents to place their ‘trash’ at the end of the driveway, with a “FREE” sign, and turn their ‘trash’ into someone’s ‘treasure’.
This is a great opportunity for people to travel through the Township and collect little treasures and take them home and re-use the items that are surplus for someone else.
Think about joining the many in Rideau Lakes on Trash 2 Treasures Day! If you would like to have your address added to our list as a Trash 2 Treasures participant, email Ben at and we will have a list to share with interested ‘shoppers’.
Grant Funds can be depositied directly to your organization's bank account.
