The wards and communities of the Township of Rideau Lakes have a rich heritage. This area was used for millennia by Native Americans as a travel route and rich fishing ground. The first surveys were done in the late 1700s with settlers arriving soon thereafter.

The Township is also host to a large section of the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the only such site in Ontario.

Property Standards

Super User

By-Law 2006-85 is the "Safe Properties" By-Law which outlines the keeping of properties as it relates to the health, safety and welfare of the municipality and its inhabitants. Anyone who has a concern about the condition of a property as outlined in the By-Law, should email the By-Law Services.

Please note:  All names of persons making complaints are kept confidential to protect privacy.  It is strongly recommended that the person making the complaint provide their name and contact information in writing as anonymous and/or verbal complaints will not be investigated by the municipality.

A By-Law Enforcement Officer may inspect the property of concern and identify the areas that contravene the By-Law. The owner of the property is given an identified timeframe to comply with an Order.  The outcome of the investigation is not provided to the complainant as that information is also kept confidential to protect privacy.

Commissioner of Oaths

Super User

We offer Commissioner of Oaths services. Certain documents require a Commissioner to certify that a required oath, affirmation or declaration has been administered properly.

Our Commissioner of Oaths will witness the signatures of people who are affirming/swearing the contents of a document to be true. You must wait to sign your document in the presence of the Commissioner.

If you are seeking these services you must make an appointment and visit the Municipal Clerk’s Department in person during regular business hours. Please provide valid photo identification to have your signature witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths.

Common documents we can witness include:

  • Vehicle transfers
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Foreign pension or life pension statements
  • Consent letters for children travelling out of the country
  • Immunization exemptions

We reserve the right to refuse commissioning services of any document.

The Municipal Clerk’s Department does not offer the services of a “Notary Public”. Those services may be found at a lawyer’s office.
