Miller’s Bay Farm is a 4th-generation family farm, which has evolved over the decades. The farm is in Lombardy and provides the community with many opportunities to access locally grown, fresh and healthy produce. In addition to employing many local youths, operating a popular strawberry patch and running their Bountiful Basket program, the Miller family is always willing to help.
Members of the Miller family can be found volunteering for several charitable causes, donating produce to the Food Banks and supporting local beautification initiatives in the township. This family is comprised of hardworking community-minded individuals and this spirit is displayed in all the work they do.
“Back in 2006, people were beginning to talk about local food, so we shifted from having a dairy herd as our main focus and turned our attention to vegetables and strawberries,” remembers Shannon. “We’ve always felt diversification was important.”
This year, the Miller’s adapted once again. “I think a lot of our focus this summer was to make coming here a good customer experience,” continued Shannon. “And a positive, comfortable and safe experience. That’s really what people were craving this year.”
In 2019, Miller’s Bay Farm was recognized with the Rideau Lakes Business Innovation Award. “We appreciate that the Township shines a spotlight on small businesses, and recognizing the value of keeping the money locally…supporting each other,” said Miller.
“Our community has been really supportive and encouraging, grown along with us, and cheered us on along the way.
“That’s certainly been one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.”
