Corey Evans’ passion for gardening is obvious from the minute you meet her. She founded her landscaping business Rideau Roots, three years ago, offering a range of professional gardening services. Corey’s knowledge, expertise and friendly demeanor have made the business into a success. This fall, Corey was recognized with the Rideau Lakes 2019 Young Entrepreneur Award.
Born and raised in Rideau Lakes, Corey supports many community events and beautification efforts through volunteer time, donations and sharing her expertise.
“My family are from here, and were very involved in the community,” says Corey. “That’s the kind of impact I want to have. I want people to remember me in a positive light. I want to build gardens that will last beyond my time.”
Her business is divided between public and private customers. While working to keep public spaces looking good, she also looks after permanent and seasonal residents. “I do a lot of cottagers. I take care of their gardens because people don’t want to garden when they’re up at the cottage.”
After studying horticultural therapy and working in larger cities for several years, Corey chose to move back to Rideau Lakes. “Why am I back in Rideau Lakes? I feel like the one word is ‘community’,” she states. “I feel so much more connected to my community here – more than anywhere else.”
“It’s beautiful here – we’re on the water, the landscape itself is incredible,” says Corey. “So, that’s a bonus reason to locate here. I would not hesitate to encourage people to come to Rideau Lakes and pursue their passions.”
