Township seeking residents’ input on new strategic plan

Published: Friday, 24 May 2024

The Township of Rideau Lakes is seeking input from residents regarding its new Strategic Plan. Pre-register to join the conversation at the Community Workshop planned for Tuesday, June 18th from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Elgin Lions Community Hall, 19 Pineview Drive in Elgin Ontario. There is no cost to attend.

Embarking on the development of a new strategic plan will create an opportunity to bring together ideas of Rideau Lakes Council, staff, residents, and stakeholders. This exercise in forward-thinking will result in a document that will outline a path forward to catalyze growth and make strides towards realizing the incredible potential of Rideau Lakes.

Understanding the vital role of community input, the Township is asking residents, business owners, and stakeholders to help shape a plan that reflects the culture of Rideau Lakes and outlines its collective goals. This inclusive approach is designed to build a strategy that not only leverages current opportunities but also looks to prepare for future challenges, and ultimately guide us as we move forward and collaborate on the big picture for the future of our community.

Rideau Lakes is home to over 10,000 people and 440 businesses that contribute their talents in the villages and hamlets including Chaffeys Lock, Delta, Elgin, Jones Falls, Lombardy, Portland, Morton, Newboro, North Crosby and Rideau Ferry. As the first step of this engagement process, residents and business owners are being encouraged to participate in an in-person community workshop that will be facilitated by Shellee Fournier, CAO.

Mayor Arie Hoogenboom remarked, “Our Strategic Planning process is about more than developing a document, it’s an opportunity to hear community insights and gain wisdom from the people who live and work in our communities.”

Residents with questions about the community workshop may contact 1-800-928-2250 ext. 223 or email for more information or visit www.rideaulakes.ca/Strategic-Plan  to register.
