The Township of Rideau Lakes is pleased to report that building activity over the last five years marks continued growth and investment.
The end-of-year report presented to Council this month counts 342 homes and cottages received building permits between 2019 and 2023, compared to 179 homes and cottages over the previous five-year span from 2014 to 2018, which illustrates that steady and sustainable growth is being realized in Rideau Lakes.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom states, “It’s great to see people choosing to live and work in Rideau Lakes. Township Council is always working towards positive growth and continued investment in our communities, on behalf of our residents.”
The most recent census data supports these statistics, showing a rise in the number of residents within the Township. The population increased by 557 people, reporting a total of 10,883 in 2021, compared to 10,326 in 2016.
Over the last five years, there has been an investment of 155,775,661 million dollars in total construction value; an average of $31,155,132 million each year.
Development Services, which includes the building department and planning services, is responsible for dealing with all applications under the Planning Act and the Ontario Building Code and for ensuring compliance with the Township’s Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and other Municipal By-laws. The revenue realized by development charges directly support the services that an increase in population demand, keeping property taxes as low as possible.
